February 22: During the Mexican-American War, Mexican General Santa Anna surrounds the outnumbered forces of U.S. General
Zachary Taylor at the Angostura Pass in Mexico, marking the beginning of the Battle of Buena Vista.
February 23: United States troops under General Zachary defeats Santa Anna at the Battle of Buena Vista in Mexico.
March 29: United States troops under General Winfield Scott take possession of the Mexican stronghold at Vera Cruz.
