M-1896 Magazine Rifle - The Army adopted a magazine rifle, in 1892, to replace its single-shot, black-powder arms. This weapon was called the "Krag-Jorgensen" after its Norwegian inventors. It fired a high-velocity, smaller-caliber (.30) cartridge. It had the capacity to hold 5 rounds of ammunition with a cycle rate of 20 rounds per minute. The overall length of the rifle was 48.9 inches with a weight of 10.1 lbs.
