Chief Robert Godfrey was from Daleville. He was 32 years old when he died in 1991 during Desert Storm during a helicopter rescue mission on the last day of the ground war. Chief Godfrey is remembered at the Gulf War Veterans Memorial where his name is listed on Row 3, Block 1.
PFC Alfred Thompson, born 1 February 1947, was single, Negro, and of Baptist denomination. He was from Durham, North Carolina and was 19 years old at the time of his death. Assigned to 1st Cavalry Division (AMBL), his tour of duty in Vietnam began on 18 January 1966. He was killed by hostile, small arms fire a little over two months later on 30 March 1966 in South Vietnam and his body was later recovered. PFC Thompson is remembered at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial where his name is listed on Panel 06E, Line 68.
The Internet Memorial was a web site, hosted by Mark Diamond, that allowed to you request a memorial tribute for a service member who was killed in combat. Upon receiving the memorial, it was placed on your web site as we have done here. We received the two memorials above several years ago but have since lost track of Mark Diamond and his web site. If you know whether Mark Diamond has another web site and what the URL is please email us.
Colonel William R. Higgins, a United States Marine, was captured and murdered by pro-Iranian terrorists while stationed in Lebanon. The exact date of his death is unknown; however, he was officially declared dead on 6 July 1990.
LtCol Robin Higgins, USMC (Ret), used to host a memorial web site in honor of her spouse's career and in dedication to his death. The URL we had is no longer functional. If you know whether Robin Higgins has another web site and what the URL is please email us. She has also written a book about her spouse's murder, entitled "Patriot Dreams, The Murder of Colonel Rich Higgins".
